SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A start to finish lead for the Evangel women's basketball team helped the Crusaders get back in the win column with a 93-82 victory Saturday over Graceland University.
The Crusaders got career days from senior Mackenzie Farmer and freshman Brianna Vogts to help aid in the Heart of America Athletic Conference win. Farmer was two points shy of a career-high finishing with 21 points, while Vogts finished with a season-high 17 rebounds and added 14 points to earn a double-double.
Evangel opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run after building a 50-41 halftime lead. Graceland cut the Crusader lead to seven at the end of the third quarter, however, Kylee Moore and Farmer started a 7-0 run to push the Evangel lead to 14 with 6:07 left in the game.
From there, the Crusaders never looked back finishing with 11 three-pointers in the win and out-rebounded the Yellowjackets 48-32.
Joining Farmer and Vogts in double figures, Kylee Moore added 17 points, Bayley Harman tallied 12, and Emma Lander scored 10. Harman also pulled down seven boards, while Desi Ennes tallied seven assists off the bench.
Graceland was led by 23 points from Caitlin Sudduth.
Evangel takes a week off before continuing its homestand next Saturday, Jan. 19 against William Penn. Tipoff against the Statesmen is scheduled for 12 p.m.
