SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel women's basketball rebounded from Monday's loss with a nine-point win over Baker, 82-73, on Thursday.
The Crusaders started the game on a 12-2 run before Baker went on a run of their own to end the first quarter. The Wildcats continued to battle the Crusaders well into the second quarter, even taking the lead before ending the half down one to Evangel, 43-42.
Back-and-forth battle into the second half continued, until 5:48 left in the fourth when Emma Lander made a bucket giving the Crusaders the lead for good.
The Crusaders shot 41 percent from the field and were led by freshman Brianna Vogts with her fourth straight double-double finishing with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior Lexie Vaught, who missed the last three games, picked up right where she left off. She was three steals away from a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and seven steals. Vaught continues to rank top five in NAIA Division I in total steals and steals per game.
Senior Mackenzie Farmer was also in double figures with 19 points and seven assists.
Freshman Bayley Harman gave the Crusaders support from the bench with 12 points.
Evangel will continue their homestand Saturday against the Clarke Pride. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.
