Big Second Half Lifts Evangel Women 78-58 for Sixth Consecutive Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A huge third quarter helped propel the Evangel women's basketball team to its sixth straight win, 78-58, over Missouri Valley on Wednesday evening.

The Crusaders trailed 38-37 at halftime but exploded with a 24-point third quarter, holding the Vikings to just seven points in the quarter.

Evangel dominated Missouri Valley in the second half shooting 53 percent from the field while holding the Vikings to just 27 percent. The Crusaders also forced 22 turnovers and added 11 steals and 22 assists on the offensive end of the floor.

Lexie Vaught paced Evangel with a season-high 26 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Vaught also went 9 of 10 from the free throw line where Evangel shot 75 percent as a team finishing 18 of 24.

Both Kylee Moore and Bayley Harman finished in double figures adding 14 points each as Evangel moved into fourth place in the Heart of America Athletic Conference standings. The Crusaders hold tiebreakers with Clarke and Benedictine who are all 13-10 tied for fourth place.

Shanelle Tolley led Missouri Valley with 16 points as Hilma Mededovic added 11 for the Vikings.

Evangel finishes the regular season Saturday on the road at Graceland. Tipoff from Lamoni, Iowa, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
