LAKELAND, Fla. – The Evangel women's soccer team scored twice near the end of the first half before sealing a 5-1 victory Monday morning against Trinity Baptist in non-conference action.

The Crusaders rebounded after being handed their first loss on Saturday against No. 20 Southeastern.

Evangel scored in the 38th minute when Lily Axtell scored at the top of the box on an assist from Brooke Pigneri. Pigneri would score a goal of her own in the 43rd minute to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead just before halftime.

Trinity Baptist would score its only goal just seconds before the horn at halftime to pull within 2-1.

However, the Crusaders would add three more goals in the second half to add to their lead with goals coming in the 63rd and 64th minutes. Brooke Todd scored the first goal before Amber Ellis found the net for the first time as Alyson Reinold played the assist on both goals for her third of the game and fifth of the season.

Pigneri would score the final goal of the day for Evangel as she beat the TBC goalkeeper in the 72nd minute after a pass from Brooklyn Barnett.

The Crusaders out shot the Tigers, 22-7 as three different keepers saw action for Evangel. Josie Gregory started the first half and recorded the only save. Caitlyn Cox and Charlsey Seidel each saw action in the second half behind a solid Evangel defense.

Evangel returns to Coryell Field Thursday in the final non-conference match of the regular season against Bacone. First touch is slated for 1 p.m.
