Women’s Soccer Score Early and Often to Down Avila, 5-3

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel women's soccer team responded with an important conference victory Tuesday, 5-3, over Avila University at Coryell Field.

The Crusaders fell behind early in the eighth minute on a goal by the Eagles. However, Evangel scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead early in the second half. All five of the Crusaders goals came from five different players.

Ashley Ard scored the first goal on a Brooke Todd assist in the 18th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Evangel would take the lead and never look back just before halftime on an Amber Ellis goal in the 41st minute.

Alyson Reinold scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season I the 55th on a Maya Davidson pass to Todd for her second assist of the match.

After a Brooklyn Barnett goal in the 62nd minute, Avila scored back-to-back goals to pull within a goal at 4-3. However, the Crusaders got an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Amber Ellis found Maya Davidson to finish past an Avila defender for the goal.

Evangel out-shot Avila 31-16 in the match as Josie Gregory recorded five saves in goal and Caitlyn Cox recorded one.

Evangel continues home action Saturday against Mount Mercy. As part of Homecoming festivities, first touch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
