SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel women's soccer team was shutout by the No. 21 Benedictine Ravens on Thursday night, 3-0.
The Crusaders and Ravens battled in the first half, but neither team was able to find a breakthrough. However, the Ravens were able to slot home three goals in the second half to take the win.
Caitlyn Cox played all ninety minutes in the goal and made nine saves while allowing three goals.
"While we didn't achieve the result we had hoped for and trained towards today, I am so incredibly proud of this team. We did some very nice things today but it was just not enough to get a result. So we wrap up the regular season in fourth, one point out of third, and directly behind three nationally-ranked teams. This truly is a special group of young ladies that I am blessed to coach and I am so excited to be entering our first-ever postseason conference tournament with a home match on Nov. 9. A 7-2-2 record and a fourth-place finish in the Heart of America conference is very respectable, especially given where we appeared in the preseason poll. Looking forward to making a postseason run with these ladies!" Head coach Bruce Deaton had to say following the match.
The Crusaders will host their first game in the Heart of America tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9.
