Event: Evangel Highline Frisco Run

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A trio of Evangel track and field athletes qualified for the NAIA National Championships in May with "A" standard finishes at the first Evangel Highline Run at the Frisco Trail.
Leslie Perona paced the women earning an "A" standard which is an automatic qualifying mark for the half marathon. Perona finished with a time of 1:29:36.6 which is the second-best time in the Evangel record books.
On the men's side Duncan Gakuru and Shane Burns also broke into the record books as well as earning "A" standard auto qualifying times. Gakuru led the group with a time of 1:11:20.2 which is 11th best in the nation, while Burns finished just behind his teammate at 1:12:50.2.
Gakuru's time was third best and Burns was fifth best in Evangel history.
The half marathon has been a successful event for Evangel distance runners with 14 Crusaders qualifying for the NAIA National Championships over the last 11 years. Also during that time, three Crusaders went on to earn All-American honors.
Evangel track and field returns to action next Saturday at the Baker Relays in Baldwin City, Kansas.
