Evangel Volleyball Falls Twice on Day One of Bellevue Premier

BELLEVUE, Neb. – The Evangel volleyball team was unable to sustain early leads Friday falling twice on day one of the Bellevue Premier Volleyball Classic. Carroll College tripped up the Crusaders, 3-1, before Evangel dropping a four-set match to Morningside, 3-1.

Against Carroll, the Crusaders took the first set, 25-17, but were unable to hold the momentum falling, 25-19, 25-15, 25-14.

Evangel was led by Heather Gahm with 10 kills and a .231 hitting percentage in the loss. Hayley Leeper also finished with 10 kills and led the team with a .280 percentage.

Victoria Fishback added 37 assists and 12 digs, while Jorden Stacey added 25 digs for the Crusaders. Offensively, Evangel hit .158 as a team while Carroll posted a .238 team hitting percentage and 20 blocks.

In Friday's matinee, The Crusaders hung with Morningside falling in the first set, 25-19, but rallying for a 25-22 win in the second. The Mustangs managed to stay one step ahead taking a 25-15 and 25-20 win to finish the match.

Olivia Johnston paced the Crusaders in game two with 14 kills. Bridget Petersen and Heather Gahm each tallied nine kills in the loss.

Evangel closes action at the Bellevue Premier Classic on Saturday against Doane at 9 a.m. The Crusaders close tournament play at 1 p.m. against Warner.
