Solid Defensive Effort for Volleyball Falls Short in 3-2 Loss at Graceland

LAMONI, Iowa – The Evangel volleyball team dropped a tough five-set match at Graceland Friday night, 3-2, in Heart of America Athletic Conference volleyball action.

After Graceland took the first set 25-20, Evangel built a 2-0 lead with a 25-17, 25-20 victory in the next two sets. However, the Yellowjackets rallied on their home court for a 25-18, and exciting 15-12 win to close out the match.

The Crusaders finished with a .118 team hitting percentage, as Graceland was able to edge Evangel with a .135 percentage. Defensively, Evangel was solid finishing with 12 blocks including five from Heather Gahm and eight from Hayley Leeper.

Heather Gahm led Evangel with 13 kills and a .220 hitting percentage. Olivia Johnston and Ayona Tharps each tallied 10 kills as well.

Jorden Stacey finished with 24 digs to lead the Crusaders as Victoria Fishback added 31 assists.

Megan Kneib posted a game-high 21 kills in the win for Graceland.

Evangel quickly returns to the court Saturday morning at Peru State. Action starts at 10 a.m.
