MARSHALL, Mo. – The Evangel volleyball team was unable to pull off the upset of 21st-ranked Missouri Valley Tuesday night in conference action.
The Crusaders battled with the Vikings in the first two sets falling 26-24 before taking the second set, 25-18. However, Missouri Valley rallied back to control the final two sets 25-16 and 25-14 to stay perfect in league play at 7-0.
Evangel was led by junior Heather Gahm who had a career night with 17 kills and a .351 hitting percentage. Gahm also added a pair of blocks as the Crusaders finished with eight a team.
Victoria Fishback helped pace the offense with 33 assists and a team-high 16 digs to finish with a double-double.
Missouri Valley was led by Hailey Criswell who added 16 kills and an impressive .565 hitting percentage.
Evangel returns to the Ashcroft Center Thursday to host Culver-Stockton in conference play. First serve against the Wildcats is scheduled for 6 p.m.
