Evangel Volleyball Stays Perfect in Day One at MNU Classic

OLATHE, Kan. -- The Evangel University volleyball team continued its perfect start to the season Friday with a 3-1 win over Doane (Neb.) and a 3-0 sweep of Fisk University (Tenn.) at the MidAmerica Nazarene Tournament.

Game 1: Evangel 3, Doane (Neb.) 1

Evangel took a solid offensive effort in the first game with a .205 hitting percentage to hold off Doane, 3-1.

Daisy Eklund and Bridget Petersen each posted 12 kills each while Eklund committed just three errors total. Regan Ansley added 10 kills while Jorden Stacey and McKenna Miller paced the hitters with 19 and 15 assists each. Miller tallied a double-double adding 12 digs.

Eryn Russell led the defense with 26 digs and Gabby Massengale posted three blocks.


Game 2: Evangel 3, Fisk 0

Evangel got off to a hot start in the Friday night finale taking the first two sets from the Bulldogs hitting nearly at a .300 percentage in each. The Crusaders managed to overcome a few errors in the third set to finish the sweep, 3-0.

Bridget Petersen again led the Crusaders with nine kills and a .273 hitting percentage. Four Crusaders all added eight kills each with Daisy Eklund, Regan Ansley, Ciera Reyes, and Kristen Johnson joining the offensive attack.

Eryn Russell posted a second straight game with 20 digs, while Jorden Stacey added 19 assists at the net.
