BELLEVUE, Neb. – Evangel split its day one games at the Labor Day Classic, sweeping Aquinas and falling in straight sets to No.7 Northwestern (IA).

Game 1: Evangel 3, Aquinas 0

Evangel was firing on all cylinders on the offense with a .330 hitting percentage to sweep Aquinas.

Bridget Petersen led the way with 14 kills, followed by Ciera Reyes, Regan Ansley, and Daisy Eklund all with 8. McKenna Miller helped out with 22 assists to go with the 14 assists from Jorden Stacey.

Defensively, Eryn Russell had 22 digs, while Makayla Stephen had 15 and Shannon Collins had 7.

Game 2: Evangel 0, No.7 Northwestern (IA) 3

It was a tough battle against the number seven team in the nation and the Crusaders were unable to find any rhythm on offense, hitting just .069.

Kristen Johnson, Petersen, and Eklund all led the way on offense with five kills, followed by four kills from Reyes. Miller contributed with 22 assists.

On the defensive end, Russell and Tori Lowry both had six digs, followed by Miller with five.

What's Next

Evangel returns home to host a four-team tournament on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. The Crusaders will play conference foe Culver-Stockton on Friday night at 7 p.m. and then take on College of the Ozarks on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and then Williams Baptist at 4 p.m.
