Evangel Cross Country Starts Season at SBU Invitational

BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Evangel men's and women's cross country teams jumped out to solid starts Saturday morning at the SBU Invitational. 

Duncan Gakuru paced the Evangel men leading the first mile of the race before finishing eighth in the 101 athlete field. Gakuru finished with a time of 20:48.94, while Shane Burns finished 16th with a time of 21:04.33.

The Crusader men finished 7th ahead of two NCAA Division 2 squads, and just behind 14th ranked Columbia College and William Woods. Missouri Southern won the meet, followed by Central Missouri.

For the Evangel women, Leslie Perona started her senior season off racing to a time of 20:18, more than one minute faster than her time at the SBU Invite a year ago. Jordan Fiorani was also a minute better crossing the finish line with a time of 22:39.46.
